5 Ways To Improve Your Online Presence

September 20, 2013 - SEO, Social Media, Web -

You want your business to have a strong online presence, but you’re not sure where to start. Here are 5 things you can do to make the most of the web.

1. Refresh your website content

Take a look at your website content; when is the last time it was updated? Regularly refreshing content is great for your audience, since it gives them a reason to keep coming back to your site. Search engines also love fresh content. Bottom line: get in the habit of reviewing your site’s content to make sure it is relevant and up to date.

2. Evaluate your social media strategy

At this point, you should definitely be using social media, but are you using it well? It might take some time, but focus on developing a strong and regular social media presence. This means posting frequently (several times a week) and engaging your audience. Start by identifying the best network for you and avoiding common social media mistakes.

3. Start a blog

A blog is a great way to improve your business’s visibility, demonstrate expertise, and prove that you’re an industry leader. Plus it’s great for SEO, since it increases content indexed by search engines and helps drive website traffic. Offer industry-related advice, news, and other engaging content that will be of interest to your audience.  Just remember to focus on creating great content, which is more likely to be shared and further improve your reach.

4. Get a Google Places listing

If you’re a local business with an office or storefront, you NEED a Google Places listing. Visit Google Places for Business to get your listing set up. This will increase your visibility in Google search and Google maps. For those that already have a Places listing, make sure you’ve included relevant categories. Don’t forget to encourage customers to leave reviews so that your Places page is even more valuable.

5. Review your online directory listings

Directories with out-dated information and missing links can cost you business. Make sure that all of your listings are up to date by performing a quick search for your business. Most online directories will allow you to claim listings (so you can update your information regularly) or submit changes (you might need to wait a few weeks for approval). You can also include your website and social media links to help drive traffic across all of your online channels.
